The roots of Hinduism can be traced back to 5000 BC- 10,000 BC. Being one of the oldest religion in the world, it has a strong history and carries with it many myths and beliefs. Myself Hindu is here to showcase the true essence of Hinduism and how does it influence our life. Before heading further, it's important for you to know that Hinduism is a way of life. If followed with complete dedication, it paves the way for nirvana.

If we talk about Hindu mythology, then they are the narratives from epics like Ramayan, Geeta, Mahabharata and other literature. These narratives form the basis of our culture and tradition which is followed by the people of the nation.

  • Myth: There are 330 million Gods in Hinduism.
  • Reality: However, the reality is that there is only one supreme God. As per Yajurveda, Atharva Veda, Satapatha Brahmana, and various other mythological scriptures say that there are 33 divinities.

  • Myth: Hinduism is a religion
  • Reality: Well, as mentioned above, Hinduism is not a religion, it is a way of life. Dharma doesn't mean religion; it means a law which gives all the actions. Hinduism was not founded by a person; it doesn’t have a core doctrine. There is no central authority in Hinduism.

  • Myth: Hindus are idol worshippers.
  • Reality: Hindus worship physical representation of God which is there is the form of an idol. It helps them focus on an aspect of prayer. For example, if you are beginning something new, then you worship Lord Ganesha who represents success.

  • Myth: All Hindus are vegetarian
  • Reality: Well, 30% of Hindus are not. Hinduism preaches the belief of AHIMSA which is the principle of nonviolence. Many adherents of Hinduism are not-vegetarian , the vegetarian diet principle of Ahimsa.
